New York

New York’s higher education system has long been recognized for its ability to draw students from all corners of the globe. With over 1.3 million college students throughout the state, New York holds the unique distinction of being the largest importer of college students in the country. Statistics show that more students who attend college outside their home state come to New York than to any other state, including California. With some of the world’s finest research facilities, museums, theaters, and libraries, New York has a great deal to offer its students both inside and outside the classroom.

Colleges in New York

SUNY’s 30 community colleges offer a wide variety of courses to the system’s 243,831 students all across New York state. The average tuition for in-state students is $3,836 a year, while students from outside New York can expect to pay about $7,991.

Best Colleges for Personal Attention +

The Empire State is home to research universities, teaching colleges and professional schools, large and small. Some colleges with 5,000 or more students have classes that feel more like a cattle drive than an intimate learning experience. For New Yorkers who crave classes with no more than 20 students per professor, we’ve created the follow listing of excellent in-state schools with low student/faculty ratios.
