Pennsylvania Online Colleges & Universities

Home to many world-famous universities, Pennsylvania is a leader in higher education in the United States. With an Ivy League school, a Seven Sisters school, and a renowned science and information technology school, many of the best and brightest head to Pennsylvania for their schooling. The state also offers a number of community colleges, smaller liberal arts schools, and distance learning programs to round out the options available for potential students.

Colleges in Pennsylvania

An impressive half a million students attend community college in Pennsylvania, split amongst 14 campuses across the state. About 230,000 of them are undergraduates—one fifth of all undergraduates in the state. Students at Pennsylvania’s community colleges can choose from numerous certificate programs, associate’s degrees, and pathways leading to a transfer to a four-year college or university. Many of Pennsylvania’s community colleges participate in articulation agreements that ease the transition into a four-year college or university by ensuring that credits transfer, prerequisites are met, and application processes are seamless.

Best Colleges for Future Service Members

The birthplace of this great country is also a state that prides itself in the numerous post secondary schools currently offering ROTC programs. Serving one’s country doesn’t have to be done outside the confines of a university. In Pennsylvania, an array of colleges offer ROTC Army, Navy, and Air Force branches for those students not willing to sacrifice their education for their desire to serve. Below is a list of all the non-profit, four-year colleges that agree students shouldn’t have to choose, and instead offer at least two ROTC programs on campus. The highlighted selections are to denote those programs that also charge less than $20,000 per year in tuition. Congrats to the following universities for successfully offering students reasonable educational costs along with service to one’s country.

Best Colleges for Women in Tech

With a large industrial sector, Pennsylvania is in need of excellent workers in the technology and engineering fields—and those entering the field often have high starting salaries. While women have historically been in the minority of students interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields, there are plenty of opportunities for women at some of Pennsylvania’s premier technology programs. The following colleges provide female students with a community through mentorship, all-female residence halls, or other special programs. The schools listed here have proven their worth for women in tech. Click here to view our methodology.

Interested in helping children and families as a social worker? Pennsylvania has dozens of accredited undergraduate and graduate social work programs. Social work jobs are due to expand by 160,000 openings from 2010 to 2020, according to government statistics. Hospitals, schools, and mental health facilities are just a few of the places where social workers are regularly employed. In Pennsylvania, a master’s degree is standard for anyone in social work. However, those with a bachelor’s degree can be granted a provisional license as long as they enroll in a master’s degree program. Click here to view our methodology.
